How to Reduce PDF File Size Without Surprises
Use local raster compression for suitable PDFs and understand its effects on searchable text, forms, quality and output size.

Identify what makes the document large
A PDF may contain scanned pages, embedded images, vector drawings, fonts and interactive content. A scan-heavy document and a compact text document respond differently to compression. Before processing, check whether the recipient needs selectable text, accessible reading structure, working form fields or a digital signature. Keep the original. Nexurivo's PDF compressor creates page images in a new PDF; it is not a structure-preserving optimizer or an OCR service.
Choose a raster preset deliberately
Select the PDF and compare the available Light, Balanced and Strong presets. These adjust render scale and image quality. A stronger setting can reduce fine detail, especially small text, diagrams and barcodes. Start with the least aggressive option that might satisfy the destination and inspect representative pages. Nexurivo processes the pages locally and builds a downloadable result, but does not promise an exact KB target or a reduction for every source document.
Understand what rasterization changes
Rasterization turns each page into pixels. Text can remain visually readable while no longer being selectable or searchable. Interactive forms, links and accessibility structure are not preserved by this compression workflow. A digital signature should not be expected to remain valid in a newly created document. If these features matter, use a workflow suited to preserving them or obtain a smaller original from the document author. A visually similar output is not functionally identical to its source.
Why the output can be larger
A short text-based PDF can already be very compact. Replacing its text and vectors with page images may increase the file size even at a reduced quality setting. The tool reports the actual result so that you can compare it honestly. If the output is larger, keep the original rather than assuming the compression label guarantees savings. Removing unneeded pages or splitting a document may help only when the receiving service permits separate or partial documents.
Review limits and the final document
Supported input is limited to 25 MiB per PDF and 100 pages, with additional memory and output guards. Encrypted files are rejected rather than unlocked. Complex pages may still require a smaller document on a constrained device. Inspect small text, page edges, diagrams and page count in the saved output, then confirm the actual bytes against the upload limit. Uploading that result to another website is a separate action governed by that site's requirements and privacy policy.
