How to Compress an Image to 100 KB

A 100 KB limit describes file bytes, not the width or height of an image. Before editing, record the accepted format, required pixel dimensions and whether the destination says maximum or approximate size. Nexurivo uses decimal units: 100 KB means 100,000 bytes. Another application may round its display differently. A file shown as 100 KB can therefore still sit just above a strict limit. Use the actual output size and the destination's instructions together.
Start with the right source and format
Use the original photograph when possible. A screenshot of a photograph introduces another resampling step and often includes unnecessary borders. Crop only material that the destination permits you to remove. JPEG is a useful starting point for photographs when accepted; PNG can preserve transparent backgrounds and crisp graphics but may be larger. WebP is an alternative only if the upload form accepts it. Renaming a PNG extension to JPG does not convert its contents.
Choose Maximum Size for a ceiling

The target-size process searches encoding quality and can reduce dimensions when necessary. Closest Size serves a different purpose: it compares nearby results and can select a file above the target. Keep required dimensions fixed
Suppose a form explicitly requests a 300 × 400 pixel JPEG below 100 KB. Those numbers are an example, not an official photo standard. Check the eyes, hair edges, printed letters and any fine marks at normal viewing size. A preview scaled down on screen can hide compression damage. Download the result, verify that you selected the new file rather than the original, and confirm its dimensions in your file viewer. If the upload still fails, check the file type and pixel rules before compressing further. Keep the original so that later applications can use a higher-quality version.
